Historic Penns Grove

The Leap Homestead was built in 1873 by David D. Leap. It housed both his personal residence and his men’s clothier business. The clothier business was founded by John P. Leap in 1840 across the street as a general store. The Leap family held the distinction of being the oldest men’s clothing store in the United States operated by a descendant of the founder. Unfortunately, the Leap Homestead was razed in February 2018.

New Restoration

Raymond Haldeman a well-known restaurant designer purchased the property in January of 2020. The Victorian was built 1889 and was in great disrepair and restored the property in 5 months and it is now known as the Haldeman Estate. The property was recently chosen by the Philadelphia Magazine as one of the top 5 homes in the Delaware Valley.

Commerce of Yesteryear

Commerce in Penns Grove has evolved over time emerging from the Delaware River Riverbank up to Main & Broad Streets intersection known as historically as Dog Town Corner is still home to vibrant business such as Di Paolo's Italian Ristorante and other locally owned business serving Penns Grove residents.

A commercial renaissance is underfoot in Penns Grove and gaining in momentum along Virginia Avenue. As the borough work tireless to attract new development to raise the quality of life for its residents through creating more revenue for the borough and increasing employment opportunities.

Stormwater Management

Stormwater is rainwater or melting snow that doesn't soak into the ground and instead flows over land, picking up pollutants and eventually reaching waterways. It's a natural process, but development increases stormwater runoff and pollution. Understanding stormwater helps us manage it to protect our environment and water resources.
