Position Title: Driver – Penns Grove Ridesharing Program
Reports To: Program Coordinator / Borough Administrator
Hours: Full-Time / Part-Time 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Monday – Friday)
Location: Penns Grove, New Jersey
The Borough of Penns Grove seeks a dependable and professional Driver to operate a 14-passenger handicap-equipped commercial van as part of the Borough’s Ridesharing Program. This program provides vital transportation services for Penns Grove seniors, disabled residents, and workers traveling to designated employment locations. The Driver will ensure safe, timely, and courteous transportation to medical appointments, social service appointments, grocery shopping trips, and targeted employment sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a 14-passenger handicap-accessible commercial van in accordance with all state and local traffic laws.
- Provide courteous, respectful, and professional assistance to seniors and disabled passengers, including operating wheelchair lifts and securing mobility devices.
- Maintain a reliable daily schedule to transport residents to medical appointments, social service appointments, grocery shopping, and designated employment locations.
- Assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicle when necessary.
- Ensure the cleanliness, safety, and proper functioning of the vehicle, including conducting pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Report any vehicle maintenance needs, incidents, or safety concerns to the Program Coordinator promptly.
- Maintain accurate daily logs of passenger trips, mileage, and fuel usage.
- Follow all Borough policies and procedures related to passenger safety, confidentiality, and customer service.
Qualifications
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license required.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement preferred but not required.
- Clean driving record with no major violations, including but not limited to DUI, Reckless Driving violations.
- Experience operating passenger vans, paratransit vehicles, or similar vehicles preferred.
- Ability to safely operate a wheelchair lift and properly secure passengers with mobility devices.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work respectfully with seniors, disabled individuals, and diverse populations.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to providing excellent service to the community.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle.
- Ability to assist passengers with limited mobility, including securing wheelchairs and mobility aids.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly wage commensurate with experience.
- Benefits in accordance with Borough policy (if applicable).
